Overview

Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica, published on 5 July 1687 under the imprimatur of the Royal Society, laid out the laws of motion and universal gravitation. Halley financed and edited it. Cambridge's Wren Library holds Newton's own annotated copy. About 500 first editions were printed.
