Morgan Beatus
Overview
A 10th century copy of Beatus of Liebana's Commentary on the Apocalypse, painted by the artist Maius, probably at the monastery of San Miguel de Escalada near Leon. Its flat bands of saturated color frame dramatic visions of the Four Horsemen, the Woman Clothed with the Sun and the seven-headed dragon. It is one of the masterpieces of Mozarabic art and among the earliest surviving illustrated Beatus manuscripts.
