Gutenberg Bible
Overview
The first major book printed in Europe with movable metal type, completed in Mainz around 1455 by Johannes Gutenberg in an edition of about 180 copies. Its 42 lines of black letter text imitated the best manuscripts. Around 49 copies survive, among the most valuable printed books on earth.
