Codex Manesse
Overview
The great anthology of Middle High German Minnesang, compiled around 1300 in Zurich for the Manesse family. Its 137 full page portraits of poets from kings to minstrels are the classic image of the medieval German lyric. Kept for centuries in Heidelberg, carried off to Paris in the 17th century, and returned in 1888.
