Vercelli Book
Overview
One of the four great Old English poetry codices, copied in the late 10th century and somehow reaching northern Italy by the 12th century, perhaps carried by a pilgrim. It contains the Dream of the Rood, the oldest surviving English dream vision poem. How it traveled to Vercelli remains a mystery.
