Leonardo da Vinci's scientific notebook of 1506 to 1510, 18 double sheets of mirror writing on water, geology, astronomy, and the fossil record. Named for the Earl of Leicester who bought it in 1717. Sold at Christie's in 1994 for 30.8 million dollars to Bill Gates, still the record for a manuscript.
