Codex Atlanticus
Overview
The largest bound collection of Leonardo da Vinci's drawings and writings, 1,119 leaves covering roughly 1478 to 1519. Assembled by the sculptor Pompeo Leoni in the late 16th century, it ranges across flight, weapons, hydraulics, mathematics, botany and architecture. Napoleon's troops carried it to Paris in 1796, and it returned to Milan after 1815. Its name comes from the large atlas-sized sheets used to mount the pages.
