Codex Aureus of St Emmeram
Overview
A golden gospel book made around 870 at the Carolingian court, written entirely in gold ink with jeweled narrative miniatures. Associated with Emperor Charles the Bald, it is the pinnacle of Carolingian court illumination. Kept for centuries at St Emmeram in Regensburg.
