Overview

A 9th century Irish manuscript containing the oldest documents about St Patrick, including his Confessio, alongside a nearly complete New Testament and the life of St Martin of Tours. Much of it was written by the scribe Ferdomnach of Armagh around 807. Long revered as a relic of Patrick himself, it was kept in a leather satchel by hereditary keepers. A note added in the presence of Brian Boru styles him Emperor of the Irish.
