Black Hours of Morgan
Overview
An extraordinary book of hours of around 1455 written in silver and gold on vellum stained a deep blue-black with iron gall ink. Attributed to a Bruges workshop close to the Master of Anthony of Burgundy, its pages shimmer like night. The acidic stain doomed most such experiments; this one survives.
