Overview

A book of hours painted by the Limbourg brothers, Paul, Jean and Herman, for John, Duke of Berry, around 1405 to 1409, and their earliest surviving complete manuscript. Unusual picture cycles tell the lives of saints such as Catherine of Alexandria and Bruno, founder of the Carthusians. The duke's own inventory called it his belles heures. John D. Rockefeller Jr. bought it in 1954 for The Cloisters.
