Vienna Genesis
Overview
The oldest surviving illuminated Biblical codex, a 6th century Greek Book of Genesis written in silver ink on purple-dyed parchment. Its 48 surviving miniatures, painted as continuous narratives, show late antique painting at its height. The luxury format suggests an imperial patron.
