Sanaa Palimpsest
Overview
Quran parchment leaves found in 1972 in the western loft of the Great Mosque of Sanaa, hiding an erased lower text from the early 7th century beneath a later upper text. The lower writing is among the very oldest Quran fragments known and differs in places from the standard text, making it central to Quran manuscript studies.
