Rossano Gospels
Overview
A 6th century Greek gospel book famous for its series of painted scenes of the life of Christ, the earliest surviving cycle of gospel illustrations. Written in gold on purple parchment, it survived in a church treasury in southern Italy. Its text opens with a genealogy of Christ in rings.
