Gandhari Birch Bark Manuscripts
Overview
Twenty-nine birch bark scrolls in Kharoshthi script acquired by the British Library in 1994, dating to the 1st century CE. They are the oldest surviving Buddhist manuscripts, canonical sutras in the Gandhari language, and opened an entirely new window on early Buddhism.
